McCormack was the daughter of an ice-cream parlor owner and a clinical psychologist. The family is not in any connections to the entertainment industry. Following the separation of her parents, McCormack enrolled to Trinity College Hartford, Connecticut. In 1990, after having graduated from Wardlaw-Hartridge School with a BA, she graduated. When she was just 12, her stage career started when she performed in "Amahl, and the Night Visitor", a holiday opera.
